Constitution for Europe
Sign of the Treaty and the Final Act that establish a Constitution for Europe, in the same hall of the Musei Capitolini where in 1957, were undersigned the "Trattati di Roma".
The European Union's Constitutional Treaty , to also be ratified by each country, was signed in Rome in the Capitol by the Heads of State or Government and the Foreign Ministers of the European Union's 25 member states and those of the three candidate countries (only the final Act).
The ceremony was officially opened in the Julius Caesar Room at Palazzo Senatorio and continued in the Orazi and Curiazi Room at the Capitol Museums, the same room in which on March 25th 1957 the "Treaties of Rome" were signed creating the European Economic Union (EEC) and also the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom).
The Delegations were seated in two lateral stands built for this occasion along the walls of the room, while the table for signatures was placed under a bronze statue of Pope Innocent X, created by Algardi.
