La Misericordia nell'arte
The theme of Mercy represented through works of art, from paintings to sculptures and from miniatures to engravings.
The theme of Mercy, which represents the heart of the christian thought , was the principal aim of a lot of masterpieces, from paintings to sculptures, from miniatures to engravings. These pieces symbolize, from one side, The Mercy Virgin, who is the Virgin who welcomes with her mantle the Christian People, as a mother who protects, defends and assists her sons. From the other side it represents the “Opere di Misericordia Corporali” , that Christ declares (S. Matteo Gospel. 25,35-36) and the right christian must complete.
Therefore the exhibition will expose various artistic testimonies devoted to the theme of mercy. The itinerary is divided into two sections:
- La Madonna della Misericordia
- Le sette Opere di Misericordia Corporali
